Baggage

In addition to my usual health and writing goals I've also designated 2008 as the year I get rid of past baggage.

Do you ever find yourself carrying around old emotions? old ways of doing things that don't work anymore?

My oldest daughter is turning eighteen and will graduate from high school in June. This is the year I turn fifty. I've decided that I need to march into the second half of my life without all the old stuff dragging me down. It's time to clean house and make some changes.

I can't believe you're turning 50. You don't look anywhere remotely near it. As for baggage, I've discovered I like to pack light. When I hit 35, I started turfing excess baggage left, right and centre. It took a little while, but by the time I hit 39, all I had left was a light, easy to carry backpack.

That is a great outlook to have, Anne. I don't have a lot of baggage in my life, but what I carry around does get heavy from time to time. I think I'll follow your lead and try to pitch it.

And I have to agree with Kelly. If you hadn't told me you were turning 50 I would never in a million years have guessed.

You're both good for my ego.

I never told anyone my age. Even my kids lied about it.

I decided that at fifty it was time to embrace getting older.

Hey, Anne!
I miss you. I've been trying to figure out my writing life. I'm impressed w/all your blogging! I didn't remember that you'd done NaNo and didn't know you were doing the Presents contest. I'm giving it a try, too, though I'm *waaay* behind w/the entry. Best of luck to you on it! You're a great writer and sending 2 entries is a great idea. Are you gonna make the cutoff w/them? I hope so.
Hugs,
Mel
