I know it's been ages since I updated this blog. I'm still on my internet diet and trying to write and use my time more productively.
106 days until the National Conference starts.
472 words a day will add up to 50,000 by June 28th.
944 words a day will give me 100,000 words by the Conference - for me that's two short contemporaries. Seems very doable, doesn't it?
And the fact that I'm not feeling the current manuscript? According to my writing pals, that's normal. They all say they hate their work at some point during the writing process. Well, that's a relief.
However, someone else told me if it were as hard as I found it, they would find something else to do. That took me back a step. I had to mull it over. Perhaps I wasn't cut out for this writing business, after all?
Then I listened to Nora from last year's RWA conference where she says "It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard everyone would be doing it." Do you know what conclusion I drew from all of that?
Everyone is different. Ha! So simple.
In more productive news I designed a friend's website - and I LIKE it. LOL. Take a look www.michellehelliwell.com
So, do you hate your MS at any point during your writing process?

I'm on a hate/hate relationship with all my writing at the moment, Anne. I'm hoping it passes. Love the Nora quote - have copied it and will print it out to add to my inspirational bulletin board.
Glad to see you - it has been a while, but it sounds like you've been busy. I LOVE Michelle's new website - great job :)
Good luck with the writing - and the conference preparation, it will be here before you know it.
Hate the manuscript at some point? Are you kidding? I loath it almost from 1/3 of the way through the end. And then I finish and love it. Until I start revising and then I loath it again.
It's natural. If you love it, you're problably not doing it right.
Thanks Janet, I like Michelle's new website, too. Makes me want to read her books!
And I'm all in the hate/hate space as well Janet. Every once in a while I do write something I like. Then I realize the scenes around it can't possibly match up ... and then, you know, the whole rewrite, edit, tear apart syndrome starts again.
Cat, your the second person who said that to me. And since I definitely don't love anything I must be doing it right.
I'm in hate with my WIP right now too. I just want it finished. Then, I know when I go back to the beginning to start revision, I'll decide I like it again. Happens every time.
Michelle's website looks great! Congrats to you both.
Anne - I love you've been on an internet diet, and hate it too, because I love reading your blog! But thanks for the awesome website. I love it.
I think I have moments where I am not feeling part of my work - or at least I'm doubting it - but I can't say I loathe it. I loathe the work that goes into it (and keeps going into it, as I have to keep re-working!). But I've never heard a writer yet say it's easy, so you must be on the right track. You have your eyes on the prize with Nationals though - so good luck with that!
