Digg'n a Ditch

This is a beautiful orange azalea in my front yard - right in the path of the ditch that needs to be dug to put in a new well.

Anyone with water woes - shortages, low pressure, hard water stains on fixtures - knows how inconvenient and disruptive it can be, especially with kids or teenagers who don't understand the concept of 3 min showers in the middle of a hot dry summer.

I've been planning on having a new drilled well put in for several years now. I've gotten quotes. It's very expensive but I can make some adjustments in the finances in order to afford it. Also, it adds value to my property and makes the house much easier to sell when the time comes. The kids are turning into young adults and momma's tired of the lawn mowing and snow shoveling so that time gets closer every day.

So, what is holding me back?

The chaos and mess. My whole front yard has to be dug up. In addition to the cost of the well I'm not sure what the yard will look like after they're gone. I have a large rock garden, a retaining wall and a walkway that might not survive. So, as I often say to my kids, (and they hate it) I need to suck it up and get it done.

Yikes - that will be huge undertaking! But, as you said, one that will benefit you now and when you go to sell.

Good luck making the final decision, Anne - on the upside, you're going to have a bunch of guys hanging around your front lawn (hopefully some of them are hunky) and think of all the story ideas you might come up with!

Janet, the thought of the mess and stress is what's holding me back. If I could just snap my fingers and have it done it would make me happy.

I hear you. We have a cistern - basically a tank in my basement that holds the water that falls off the roof. Water pressure, and taking long showers are a treat, especially in the summer. Good luck with the decision. If you can grin and bear it, it will be worth it in the end.

Lovely azeala!

Michelle, I've heard of cisterns but don't know much about them. Sometimes I go to the gym just so I can have a nice long shower - I only exercise because I'm there and it would look odd if I didn't.

Had to come over after reading on Michelle's blog that you had done some redesigning - it looks fabulous, Anne! I love the colors and the header is perfect for an author. Well done - makes me want to go tweak mine, but I'm going to resist the urge :)
