Secrets in my Garden

Mowed the lawn this afternoon. Hopefully that will be the last time this year as some of the trees are starting to change color. Beautiful red and orange leaves dotting the periphery of my yard:

Found two little green apples on my front lawn. Looked around my yard to see if one of those big green things with leaves was actually an apple tree.

This could happen.

I have bunches of stuff growing all over my property and I haven't a clue what they are. The fact that one of them suddenly started bearing fruit would not surprise me.

For example, this pretty white flower with red berries, sprung up in my side yard. Haven't a clue what it is:

When you first plant a garden you're desperate for all the little plants to grow. Years later when they've grown out of control, you wonder what you were thinking. Like these euonymus' we planted at the base of our chimney that have taken on a life of their own.

Considering how little care I give them, I'm amazed that anything grows. Of course, if it's a wimpy plant that needs TLC, it has no place in my garden.

I have a shed full of gardening tools from back in the days when I really believed I wanted to be a gardener. I've given up that foolish notion and faced the reality that I don't like digging in the dirt. However, if my characters don't start behaving in my current MS, I might just start to think I'll use those tools in a desperate attempt to distract myself from a hero that is acting like an a** and a heroine who is giving a good imitation of a door mat.

I live in a townhouse right now, but I've got a big shade garden planted at our camping site. I love the designing and the digging. Not so much the weeding.

Every year I try something new to see how it does. Some take off like crazy. Others struggle. It's a work in progress.

Cat, I think it's the size of my property that overwhelms me. Once I get the lawn mowed I'm exhausted and I don't know where to start with the overgrown gardens.

Of course, then I get frustrated because my lilac bush won't bloom. No pleasing me.

LOL! Exactly. I think those red berries are part of a vine intertwined with the wild asters (the whitish flowers.) In the summer they have purple flowers, and in the fall red berries. These are one of the plants that can get out of control, but both the flowers and berries are pretty and can be worth it to have here or there.

However - they're called Deadly Nightshade, so no eating the berries!

Thanks for the name, Julia. Does sound pretty grisly for a pretty plant, doesn't it?

My gardens sort of went crazy last year and I finally managed to simmer them down this year. We mowed our grass today. Hopefully that will be the end of the mowing!

I inherited huge gardens when we bought our house, which I'm sorry to say have become an unruly mess. I have great plans, but suck at execution. (Come to my backyard and witness the 'half-dug grave' looking thing that was supposed to be a vegtable garden. In 2008.) Anyway, I get your gardening conundrum. I'm convinced it's the rich or retired or both.
