2011 Goal - Courage

Happy New Year!
Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy. – Dale Carnegie

My biggest goal for the upcoming year is to not let fear hold me back. To take the blank canvas of 2011 and create the life I want. It's a very grand resolution for me. I'm struggling with the strategies I need to make that happen. I know I need to take a more proactive approach to getting where I want to go.

So January will be focused on discovering what that life looks like. What do I want for the second half of my life? And what actions can I take today to achieve that?

In comparison my writing goals are more clearly defined because I know what I want: To be published by Harlequin.

Write and Submit a Partial for Presents by Mid Feb.

Write another Desire and be ready to pitch it by the RWA conference in June.
Complete another short contemporary romance and be ready to submit by Dec

Do you set goals? resolutions?  Or do you think it's all just a set up to make you feel bad by mid January when you haven't stuck to them?

It's amazing how much energy we waste on fear, when what it amounts to is a fear of success. Go for it, Anne!

I love the proactiveness of your resolution, Anne - looking for action that will make your goals a reality :) And with such a postive attitude, I know you'll succeed.

Looking forward to following your journey here on your blog. Happy New Year :)

I set really specific goals, and find that by mid-year things change as circumstances change. Make sure you use small, easily achievable goals to work towards big ones. That way, you always have a sense of accomplishment.

Commit to writing 500 words a day. If you write 1000, great! As long as you're moving forward, you'll feel on top of the world.

I'm so glad you're coming to National this year. We have to meet!!

Happy New Year to you too, Janet.

Cat, we definitely have to meet at Nationals!

I like the 500 words a day goal. It's very doable and if you do more, you're a superstar.

I set real-time goals. I'm not much of a list maker, so I don't have them written down, but I know what I want to have done by what time, and I'm getting much better at acheiving them. I can see that a lot of that was just doing, aquiring the stamina over time that I needed to keep up the pace of a professional writer.

I'm glad you're going to the conference, Anne - me, too!!

Hi Anne - I think the specificity of your goal is awesome. You know exactly what you want - and how to get there. So many people are so vague - including myself at the beginning. This year I made myself a work plan - and outlined some clearer goals. I'm hoping it will help.

Good luck on your path - I think you'll make it!
