No Plot, No Problem

I don't know why I'm so fascinated by the NaNoWrimo. I'm reading the book written by the creator of Nano, Chris Baty. The book is well written and so far, I'm on Ch2, enlightening. It's very joyful and optimistic and I would love to capture that spirit in a month of writing a novel.

So, I'm back to considering it.

I have to decide which one of my dozens of ideas sparks the most excitement. I have a dark Romantic Suspense idea that involves a wife, another man and a murder. Or the humorous mystery that involves a divorced woman, starting over at 40 and a dead ex-husband. Or the mystery trilogy with the disbarred, recovering addict lawyer whose ex-boyfriend is the Police Chief. Or....

You can see why I'm having so much trouble making a choice because that's just the tip of the iceberg on all the different index cards I have filled out with bits and pieces of plot ideas. I also have the next short contemp idea for Desire - a woman pregnant by her ex-fiance's brother. Sleeping with your fiance's brother might be a hard sell to category romance but I love the ideas I have for that book.

Considering I have a terrible time making decisions - always afraid I'll make the wrong one -this could take awhile.

I'm psyched for it too. And I really liked No Plot? No Problem! It was a fun read and really got me in the right frame of mind to just relax and write flat out for fun, which is what I need right now. I also made my bestfriend buy it. She's doing Nano too and has been fighting the internal editor, so I figured NaNo would be a good exercise for her to get back in the swing of writing.

I just bought the book today so haven't had time to really look through it yet. But I did turn to page where they list books that were written during NaNo. Rather impressive!

I'm a reluctant plotter but am going to do a bit before it starts. I figure it'll save me having to think about what to write when the time comes.

I did it two years ago and really benefitted from it. Of course, I'm still working on that same book! But the first half absolutely flew out of me. Go for it, Anne!
