Having Fun...

Here's what I've been working on over the past couple of weeks - designs for my author website. I presented these to the class a few days ago as my final assignment. These two are very Suspense/Thriller driven. I think I might actually create one that has more of a romantic suspense feel. The romance is a big part of every book I write.

The first one is what my site might look like if I were a "published author" and my book "Shattered" was on the shelf. A wonderful thought.

What do you think of the mostly black and white theme with just a splash of blood red? You can click on the picture and it will enlarge it for a better view.

Because I had to include as many techniques that we learned as I could, once I completed the first one I decided it was too "busy," too much going on.

I simplified the design and presented what I would actually put on my website as an unpublished author. What do you think? Does it work for a Mystery/Suspense author?

Wow, those are great! I like number two better, I think. The reason is there's not as many images, your name is clearer, and it draws me right in. I think you could just add the word romantic in front of suspense and it would work great. I also really like the red rose. Gives sort of a gothic/romantic feel to the spread. I also really like your grey scale w/ the splashes of red.

Very impressive!

Where do you get your photos? They're wonderful!

Thanks Cat. I really appreciate the detailed comments.

The pictures mostly come from canstockphoto.com. I've combined three or four of them in photoshop and turned them black/white/grey and used some blending options so they don't look so much like separate images. The blood splatters are tacked on after.

Very cool! You sure have a knack for this.

I like both of them, but I'd probably use number two because it has the links right on the first page and as Cat said, doesn't have as many images.

The colours are great and it definitely has a suspense feel. I really like that picture of the woman. She looks angsty and rather heroine-like.

Well done! Can't wait for the big reveal. :-)

Anne, my first thought after the first one was that it was too busy. I definitely like the second one.
